The absolutely amazing model railroad layout “Le Bassin”, created by model builders Wieger Pasman and Floris Dilz in HO scale, depicts the Liège steel industry in Belgium. In the 1980’s the steel industry was to change completely because many parts of the steelworks were shut down. A mystical atmosphere emerged and the steelworks seemed like a patchwork of active and abandoned industrial buildings. This atmosphere fascinated model railway enthusiasts Wieger Pasman and Floris Dilz so much that they decided to build a model rail layout illustrating the industrial buildings in the inner cities of Seraing and Ougrée.

Usually the focus is on long-forgotten railway lines or on old locomotive sheds (“abandoned premises”), which are exactly modelled on the basis of old postcards and books. The members of the model railroading club “Modelspoorclub Het Spoor” from Sint-Niklaas in Belgium have taken up this challenge and constructed a high-precision replica of the Belgian railway line 127 and Braives railway station.
