Large model railroads or small model railways built in O scale are always very appealing because of their realistic-looking dimensions. If rail modellers don’t have the space to construct a large model train layout in O scale, they build a small shelf layout. When these rail model layouts additionally reflect the French attitude to life, beautiful miniature worlds are created.
Jan van Remmerden follows this philosophy of rail transport modeling. He enchants the spectators of model railway exhibitions again and again with particularly impressive French railway dioramas, for example with his well-known O scale layout “Jean Ville”. At the On TraXS 2022 model train show, Jan van Remmerden presented his latest O scale layout called “Montereau”. Once again he picks up the French flair and has built a market place on a footprint of only one square meter, where a narrow-gauge branch line has a terminus.
That train stop is located directly in front of the town’s café and it is served by a small rail bus (“Autorail Micheline”). It seems very quiet in that French village. There is a bookshop as well as a grocery shop and of course, there are the passengers waiting for the departure and arrival of the rail bus on its narrow-gauge tracks.
