Due to their long tradition, industrial railways are a very popular subject for railway modelling or model railroading. Dr. Michael Giersberg is one of those railway modellers or model railroaders who specialized in the reproduction of narrow gauge field railways in East Germany. His model train diorama constructed in HOn30 scale depicts a small village with a quarry in the 1960s.

In rural regions in particular, there were narrow-gauge railways and small branch lines that were operated exclusively with steam locomotives. This period of East German railway traffic offers a rich repertoire for railway modelling. Franz Rittig is a well-known railway modeller who depicts the railway infrastructure of the North German region Mecklenburg in his model railways. His latest model railway in 1/87 scale consists of two dioramas on an area of 2.7 m x 0.4 m x 0.5 m depicting the train station of Friedrichsruhe and Alt Warnow.

In every country there are artists and masters in the field of model railroading who have the ability to depict nature, trains, buildings, landscapes and rail traffic as realistically as possible in the model. In Germany, there was a model maker who was known throughout Europe. His name was Bernhard Stein, and this video presents one of his largest model railroad layouts in HO scale.

A few weeks ago, Peter Bynens and Jean-Luc Declerck, also known as the “Leuvense Spooreen Vrienden”, have finished their latest 1/32 scale train layout, so that we can enjoy a preview of this new miniature world. The new layout features beautiful hand-made landscapes and buildings of Switzerland.

Robert Strachan, a model railway enthusiast from the United Kingdom, has built his model train diorama on an area of 5 feet 8 inches by 13 inches, approximately 180 cm x 30 cm. The model rail layout is a shelf layout respectively a small shunting model railroad layout or switching model railway layout.
