Beautiful O Scale Model Railroad Layout of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway - दार्जिलिंग हिमालयी रेल

The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (दार्जिलिंग हिमालयी रेल), also known as the “DHR” or the “Toy Train”, is a 610 mm (2 feet) gauge railway that runs between New Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling in India. Built between 1879 and 1881, it is about 88 km (55 miles) long. Diesel locomotives handle most of the scheduled service, with daily tourist trains. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (দার্জিলিং হিমালয়ান রেল) is one of the most legendary, breathtaking and adventurous rail routes in the world.

Model railroader Pascal Kok from the Netherlands was so fascinated by this sensational railroad line that he built an Indian train diorama. The diorama consists of two sections, i. e. viewers can look at the Indian miniature world from the left and from the right and discover two different landscapes. On the left, the diorama depicts the Darjeeling railway station and everyday situations of the people who live and work along the railroad line. On the right, the diorama depicts a typical section of the railroad line that runs through the high mountains of India.

Pascal Kok needed eight months to build the model train layout. He invested a large part of the construction time in 3D printing in order to faithfully reproduce the diesel locomotives (type NDM-6 class) and the two railroad wagons true to the original. The buildings were also created using a 3D printer. The scale of the model railway layout is between 1/45 and 1/48, which is known as “O scale” or “O gauge” (narrow gauge) in Europe or “On30 scale” in other countries.

Some of the model figures were imported from India and are made by “Precision Model Works” (PMW). For other model figures, he used so-called “STL data files”, which contain geometric data for rapid prototyping, computer-aided manufacturing and 3D printing. These model figures are painstakingly hand-painted.
