It is always nice to watch model railways and model trains in Norwegian design. But what is so special about Norwegian railways? Norway has some breathtaking railway lines. The Bergensbanen, the Flåmsbana and the Randsfjordbanen, for example, are well known to railway enthusiasts and railway romantics. Some of these railway lines cross the Arctic Circle.
Although Norway even has its own model railway manufacturer, namely the company “Norsk Modelljernbane”, it is very surprising that Norwegian rail transport is rarely chosen for railway modelling or model railroading. However, the members of the Dutch model railway club “Modelspoorgroep Valkenswaard” have built a wonderful modular model train layout in HO scale depicting a section of the Nordlandsbanen in central Norway.
The model railroad layout is called “De Noorse Baan” (“The Norwegian Railway”) and presents the old railway station of Størdal, which was located a few kilometres north of Trondheim. On the Norwegian model train layout, there are a stave church, buildings with grass roofs, wooden houses, a railway bridge and a motorway bridge, on which model cars drive. The whole landscape has been built with great attention to detail.
