Many model builders and railroad modelers in Europe are fascinated by the railway system in Switzerland. Although there are high mountains and deep valleys, everywhere the railroad runs. So, many model builders would like to create this atmosphere on a model railway display. Especially in Germany there are many layouts with Swiss landscapes. Therefore, we see in this video the famous Furka Cogwheel Steam Railway. Of course, it is a model railroad layout built in HO scale, narrow gauge. In particular, we can see the railway traffic at the famous Gletsch station in Switzerland.
Let me explain why this station is something special: This railway station was opened in 1914, and owned and operated by the Furka Oberalp Bahn. The Furka Oberalp Bahn was the only railroad that crossed the mountains. The railway line was used until 1982. Then the railway line was abandoned because the new Furka Base Tunnel was opened for crossing the mountains. But since 1992, the abandoned railway line has been reopened as a heritage railway. And, also the station at Gletsch was reopened. The station in this model is a very, very good copy of reality in 1/87 scale. Now, please enjoy watching these Swiss locomotives and trains.
