Extremely Rare Arabic Model Railroad O Scale Layout

Model railroader Samuel de Zutter and model builder Valentijn van der Haegen chose a very unusual location for their latest model railroad layout, namely an agricultural railroad line in Egypt. Because it is definitely rare to see an Arabic model train layout, the question arises why they built an Egyptian train diorama.

The answer is quite simple: Originally they had the vision of building a diorama of a sugar cane plantation in the Caribbean. However, when they saw a documentary on YouTube about a sugar cane plantation in Egypt, which was operated by narrow-gauge trains, the idea for their new model railway layout, called “Luxor Sugarcane Valley”, was born.

The diorama consists of two sections, i. e. viewers can look at the Arabic miniature world from the left and from the right and discover two different landscapes. On the right, there is an village with a market and a sugar cane plantation. On the left, there is a sugar cane factory, partly hidden by palm trees in the desert sand. Furthermore, a single-track On30 scale railroad line runs through both sections of the diorama.

The design, level of detail and dimensions of this model rail layout are very similar to the award-winning model diorama “Cubana”, which was also built by Samuel de Zutter and Valentijn van der Haegen a few years ago. Unfortunately, only an old tramway was running through the diorama during the “Modelspoor Expo 2024” (exhibition for rail transport modeling) in Belgium.
