Beautiful British 7 mm Narrow Gauge Model Railroad Diorama (O Scale Railway Modelling)

German railway modeller Jürgen Heinritz presented his beautiful model train diorama at the model railway exhibition “Faszination Modellbahn” in Mannheim, Germany. The diorama is about the size of a shoebox, so approximately 60 cm wide and 20 cm deep. On the left-hand side there is a fiddle yard from which locomotives can enter or exit the diorama.

The micro model railway layout, which is called “Itsnot Moor”, depicts the loading of goods on a small private narrow gauge railway in the south of England in the late 19th century. On the left-hand side of the diorama, model trains cross a small bridge and enter the centre of the diorama, where there is a wooden shed for railway staff. In front of the shed, there is a railway point or switch. Behind this railway point or switch the right-hand side of the diorama begins, where two sidings have been installed.

It is a 7 mm narrow gauge model railway designed for shunting, because rail traffic take place only between the fiddle yard and the two sidings. However, the model landscape is highly detailed and intricately designed. The track sleepers are handmade. The wooden shed, the goods wagons and the locomotives have been beautifully weathered. The beautifully weathered locomotives were also hand-assembled by Jürgen Heinritz using model kits.

By the way, narrow gauge means any prototype track gauge less than 4 ft 8 ½ in (1.435 mm). 7 mm narrow gauge model railways typically use OO scale track with a gauge of 16.5 mm. This combination is commonly known as “O-16.5”. For 16.5 mm gauges there is a wide range of loco and rolling stock chassis available from mainstream OO, HO and N gauge manufacturers. For North American prototypes, the most common track gauge is again 16.5 mm representing 2 ft 6 in gauge prototypes, known as “On30”.
