Awesome Weathered Belgian Model Railroad Layout in HO Scale: Quai 12 by Pascal Hubert

At the model train exhibition, called “Modelspoor Expo”, the Belgian model railroader Pascal Hubert presented his beautifully weathered model railway layout in HO scale, which is called “Quai 12”. The diorama “Quai 12” depicts the Belgian industrial history and railroad history at a harbor on the quay wall in the 1960s.

The miniature world covers an area of around 2.0 x 0.5 meters. The model rail network is based on Märklin tracks. Pascal Hubert uses Märklin C track, which he has additionally processed to make it look as realistic as possible. Furthermore, buildings, roads, walls, locomotives and trains have all been patinated and painted by Pascal Hubert. In fact, everything we can discover on this model railroad layout, is beautifully patinated and weathered with dirt. The level of detail is truly amazing.

The focus is on the double-track railroad line that runs in the background of the scenery. In the foreground is an industrial port, where the local scrap dealer “Hulot & Fils” (“Hulot & Sons”) is located. A short shunting train pulled by an old diesel locomotive commutes in the port area. The barge “Groote Lulu” has moored at the quay and is unloading its cargo of scrap metal.

On the left side, near the level crossing, the street “Rue Del Coupette” branches off and leads to a row of workers’ houses built in typical Belgian architecture. Along the road, which runs parallel to the railroad line, there is also a gas pipeline, which is also typical of the Belgian industrial atmosphere. A picture of a landscape in Belgium is installed on the background wall of the diorama. Pascal Hubert took the photo himself. Furthermore, he had the photo enlarged and printed on special paper.

The result is both a superb Belgian model railway layout and a detailed industrial model train diorama of the 1960s. Pascal Hubert has really created a work of art or rather a masterpiece in rail transport modeling.
