Originally, the company named Bing, based in Nuremberg, Germany, manufactured the first toy trains made of tin. On the contrary to today's model railway, these tinplate trains were primarily focused on gaming experience, not on scale conformity or on details. Model trains from the early years - the pre-war period - were mainly made of tin or tinplate.
In the 1920’s Bing was the European market leader in tinplate model railways, which were initially operated with a wind-up power and later with electric power. Even the famous company Marklin focused on model railways and produced in the 1930's tin plate trains. Today, railways as well as tin toys of yesterday are absolute rarities. And, if it still is a fully functional model railway, then it’s absolutely unique.
